A by Public Policy Polling has found that a strong majority of Virginia voters support both legalizing medical cannabis, and decriminalizing cannabis possession.
According to the poll – commissioned by the Marijuana Policy Project – 74% of voters in Virginia support “changing the law in Virginia to allow seriously and terminally ill patients to use medical marijuana” if their doctor recommends it. The poll found only 21% of voters to be opposed to such a move.
The survey also found that 60% of Virginia voters support decriminalizing the possession of up to 30 grams of cannabis, making it a simple $100 ticket rather than an arrestable misdemeanor; just 32%, less than one in three, are opposed.
The poll found that a plurality – though not a majority – of Virginia voters also favor legalizing cannabis, 49% to 44%.
