Both THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol) limit neuroblastoma cell proliferation, according to a new study published in the journal Current Oncology, and published online by the U.S. National Institute of Health. Neuroblastoma is an aggressive cancer often found in the small glands on top of the kidneys, though it can also develop in the chest, pelvis, neck, stomach, and bones. Children ages five and younger are most commonly affected.

For the study researchers found that although both THC and CBD helped fight off neuroblastoma cells, CBD was more effective in doing so.

“Our findings about the activity of CBD in nbl (neuroblastoma) support and extend previous findings about the anti-tumor activities of CBD in other tumors and suggest that cannabis extracts enriched in CBD and not in THC could be suitable for the development of novel non-psychotropic therapeutic strategies in nbl”, states the study.
