Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel has given approval to the Arkansas Hemp & Marijuana Amendment, a constitutional amendment initiative which would legalize both recreational and medical cannabis.
The initiative, put forth by Arkansas Citizens’ Alliance for the Legalization of Marijuana (CALM), won ballot title approval, but still needs to have its wording approved by the Secretary of State’s office.
If placed on the ballot and passed into law by voters, the initiative would legalize the possession, use and distribution of cannabis for those 21 and older. The proposal would also allow for the private cultivation of up to 36 plants.
Once the Secretary of State’s office approves the initiative’s wording, advocates will be authorized to begin collecting signatures, with hopes of putting the proposal to a vote in the 2016 general election.
